From the seed to the fabric, this special experience flows in the linen fibres that Linificio e Canapificio Nazionale grows in Astino. The poetry of blooming, that in the morning “dyes” the fields of Bergamo of a blue color, turns into linen material through the processes of spinning, dyeing and weaving when Linificio e Canapificio Nazionale, Dyeberg, Albini Group and Martinelli Ginetto, Bergamo’s worldwide excellences of the linen industry, transform it following the highest criteria of innovation and sustainability. This story turns into a journey, from Astino to the centre of Bergamo, and becomes a tribute to beauty and art through a sequence of events taking place in the heart of the city to give the territory the emotion of an experience that celebrates nature and progress, tradition and innovation, research and sustainability: the cultivation and transformation of linen at Zero Km. A narrative path that, thanks to Il Cavaliere Giallo, has involved cultural associations, local players, institutions and international partners in a fascinating plot that tells the linen story with the visual language of art, music and performance.
Linen is art
Painting masterpieces from Accademia Carrara to Sentierone
Linen is the basis of many pictorial works. Famous artists of every age have immortalized faces, elegant dresses and landscapes transferring their art to linen canvas. “Linen is art” is a selection of paintings from Accademia Carrara, faithfully reproduced with prints on linen fabrics that will be shown under the arcades of Sentierone from the 1st to the 30th of June. The gallery of masterpieces will be moved to Valmarina at the Parco dei Colli site from the 1st of July to the 30th of September.
Linen is vision
The path of linen in over 60 photo shots
The path of linen in the Bergamo textile chain is told from the seed to the fabric with over 60 shots of the photographic exhibition set up from the 1st to the 30th of June under the arcades of Sentierone edited by Il Cavaliere Giallo. An occasion to discover an industrial reality that since the end of the 1800s has made Bergamo a leading player in the fashion world. From the 1st of July to the 30th of September the exhibition can be visited at the Parco dei Colli site in Valmarina.
Linen is music and dances in every fibre
Here the linen story crosses the poetic language of dance and music: moving bodies translate into choreographic performances the concepts of transformation and resilience, the vital energy of nature and the engineering of the machines; this is the metaphor embracing linen and the city which ideally closes this journey. On the 14th of June starting from 17:30 at the Quadriportico of Sentierone, two contributions animate this event: the video preview “The linen dances in every fibre” made by ABC – Allegra Cinematica Brigade and a live performance of Contact Dance Improvisation by Le Molecole on music by Gaetano Donizetti. A special evening to celebrate the arrival of linen blooming and that is part of the calendar “Waiting for the Donizetti Night”, a series of initiatives that celebrate and remind the orobic composer, probably son of weavers, and his strong connection with the city of Bergamo. Donizetti’s music, has been selected by artistic director Francesco Micheli with Michele Balistreri (dramaturg of Donizetti opera festival), to become the soundtrack of the performance of Le Molecole signed by Andrea Gambirasio.
